TFT display modules are what we popularly call active-matrix LCD flat-screens based on thin film transistor technology. Let’s just say that this technology is what enables control over what each pixel displays on the screen. Without having to do a full in-depth study on liquid crystal displays, let’s take a peek at how this stuff works.

The first thing that anyone interested should know about are pixels, which are small units used in graphics (an LCD screen, in this case). The size of the screen can thus be measured in pixels like 640×480, 1024×780 and so on. The trick is to control what color each pixel displays, and so what’s visible on the screen is the combined impact of the distinct displays of hundreds of small pixels.

This individual behavior by each pixel is controlled using transistor switches. Way it works is that each pixel has its own controlling transistor switch. The pixel, which is a capacitor, is forced by the switch to hold the required charge until there’s another screen refresh and the pixel’s charge needs to change.

This may seem like a complex operation that needs a room full of equipment. But this is actually done on a tiny scale, like semiconductor wafers. Only, in this case, the silicon that creates the transistor switches gets pasted on the module’s glass panel which end up as the user’s screen.

A small amount of space in each pixel is taken by the transistor, while the rest is clear to allow for the light to pass thru. How this light-passing stuff works with back, front and side lights is a bit too much to get into here. Just accept it works, and whatever charge has been sent to the pixel is held in place by its transistor switch.

Basics apart, there’s also the practical matter of what a consumer should look for when getting a device that uses TFT display modules. For starters, the types of displays include MVA and PVA, TN films and IPS. Again, a detailed explanation of each one is well beyond the scope or space of this article.

Each one has its own specific technology and applications, and it is again too big a topic to delve into here. Let’s just say that the TN film has traditionally been the one used most widely. The IPS and its variations are a better option which removes many of the limitations in TN film TFT display modules.

What consumers should be looking at closely are the size and price, which changes based on the application. These displays come in standard sizes which are used in specific types of devices. For example, mobile phones use 1.5-2.5 inch displays, while a handheld or PDA would need a 3.9 inch one. Desktop computers or television sets need bigger screens, from 15 to 21 inch or bigger sizes.

This is where it gets interesting, because of the trade-off between size and price. Based on the current price of manufacturing a thin film transistor based module, the best balance of affordability and size comes in tablets, which are above and below 10 inches. This is one of the main reasons that both tablets and TFT display modules are so much in demand.

LCD or Liquid Crystal Display initially intended for laptops has gained wide acceptance in digital clocks, microwave ovens and CD players and other electronic devices. Before discussing the advantages of LCDs, it is important to understand how the technology works. The LCDs trap a liquid crystal solution between two panes of polarized glass. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align in such a manner that light is either allowed to pass or is blocked. Based on the wavelength of the light and where it is passed, the LCD monitor displays the images.

The salient features of the LCD technology include brighter, clearer, and sharper images obtained at a click of a mouse. Features such as a high picture resolution, color, clarity and brightness coupled with improved visibility of smaller fonts and a reduction in response time have all contributed towards increasing the market demand for LCD monitors by industrial enterprises ranging from banking, ATMs, games to hospitals and restaurants.

The dynamics of constant research has resulted in many advances in this technology. Initially incepted for a screen of about 12 to 14 inches, LCD is now a popular choice for a 50-inch screen. Another benefit of the advancement of technology is that the manufacturers have been able to cut down on the cost of production. This in turn, has brought down the cost of LCDs thereby making it a feasible choice for various industrial enterprises. Also, the LCD has a long life of about two decades allowing a person to use it between 8 to 10 hours daily.

The advantages of LCD monitors are such that they are gradually replacing CRT or the cathode ray tube monitors. This is because LCD technology is better for the eyes. LCDs have uniform screen brightness. Also, the screens covered with a flexible surface are less susceptible to glare as compared to the CRT screen.

Given the advantages of LCD, it is not surprising that LCD monitors are slowly and steadily replacing the conventional computer systems that used CRT technology for the computer display.

LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD monitors are about 1″ to 3″ thick. They weigh less than 10 pounds. Much better than the older CRT monitor that weighs 30 to 50 pounds and is several inches thick.

The LCD monitor consists of five layers. Colored pixels, backlight, a sheet of polarized glass, a layer of liquid crystal solution, and a second polarized sheet of glass. A picture is created when the crystals act like tiny shutters, opening or closing in response to the stimulus, thereby allowing degrees of light that pass through specific colored pixels to illuminate the screen.

The LCD monitor is brighter than a CRT monitor and weighs only a few pounds. They are much easier on the eyes and take up 90% less space. They use one-third to one-half the electricity of CRTs.

Most LCD monitors range from 15″ to 21″ although larger sizes are available. To get an idea of what size screen you should choose, the 15″ LCD will have an actual 15-inch viewing screen.

Brand names for LCD Monitors: gateway, packard bell, acer, hp, compaq, dell, viewsonic, samsung, relisys, envision, benq, eizo, ibm, jetway , lenovo, nec, philips, proview, Iiyama, sharp, sony, lg, westinghouse, norwood, lacie, xerox, asus, aoc.

When your LCD monitor needs repair, what should you do? Repairing your monitor at a service center could easily exceed half the cost of a new monitor. As far as electronic equipment goes, monitors become obsolete at a somewhat slower rate so it makes sense to repair to repair it.

If you do not have the proper instruction, repairing the LCD monitor can be very confusing. If you would like to learn how to repair the monitor from the comfort of your home, I recommend the LCD Monitor Repair guide. It is important to learn how to troubleshoot, diagnose and isolate problems correctly.

This guide was created for those who are just starting out or for those who are already repairing LCD monitors and want to take their skills to the next level. Taught by a professional LCD Monitor Instructor who has given many LCD monitor courses and understands the problems faced by students.

The LCD Monitor Repair course is an amazing guide not like anything else out there. It is more like a step-by-step blueprint for guiding you how to easily repair LCD Monitors. You receive a wealth of information. The number of times you’ll refer back to this E-book year after year will prove invaluable.

The LCD Monitor Repair guide is an instant downloadable course. Amazing and affordable. So simple anyone can follow along. In 7 days or less you will be repairing the LCD Monitor like an expert. Guaranteed! You will understand how the LCD Monitor works and how to read LCD Monitor Schematic diagrams.

Because LCD monitors have become so popular, everyone is ready to go out and get one. The only problem is, though, that they are still expensive. If you buy an LCD monitor for your computer, you can expect to spend as much as $600. Sure, the picture is better, eye fatigue goes down, your space on your desk is better, and the contrast makes it easier to read typed words on the screen. Buying cheap LCD monitor tips can help you get all the benefits of an LCD monitor without spending a fortune to get it.

Check in the Right Places

In almost every case, you can expect to pay a lot less for your LCD monitor if you buy it online. The key, though, is to look at the right sites. Everyone has heard the horror stories about buying online only to get stuck with an inferior product or no product at all. There is, though, a way to find a cheap LCD monitor online with minimal risk.

Once you have done your search engine search for the LCD monitor, and when you have found a site that seems to have the prices you want, you want to contact the company. The best way is to find a way to get on the phone and actually speak with someone. Talking to a real person is a good sign. Additionally, make sure you ask them if they are an authorized dealer of the LCD monitor you are thinking of buying. An authorized dealer will ensure that you can get the manufacturer warranty and that it will stay in tact.

Another way of buying an LCD monitor online is through an auction site. There, you can find new and used monitors and you will be buying them from real people. Once you have won the auction, you deal directly with the person. That means you will know exactly where you are purchasing the monitor from. In fact, if you look for close by product, you can actually see and touch the monitor before you take it. That means you will be able to get a great price and still make sure you don’t get a lemon.

Finally, check with business outlet stores and discount electronics stores to get a cheap LCD flat screen monitor. If you know what you are looking for and are in no hurry to get it, you can take your time shopping the discount electronic stores. That way, when you see what you want at the price you want, it is easy to just grab it. Finding a cheap LCD monitor is about being ready and having good timing as much as anything.

Hopefully buying cheap LCD monitor tips will help you when you go to upgrade your home office. Take the time to shop around if you want to buy in person and keep yourself at the ready. If, though, you choose to go the online route it is really just about making sure you have gotten a good company and are keeping warranties and guarantees in tact.

Widescreen LCD Monitors offers some excellent specifications. Thanks to http://infactual.com/2007/04/28/buying-cheap-lcd-monitor-tips/

Samsung’s SyncMaster 2232GW is a winner. The monitor’s round-bottomed base may not appeal to everyone, but few will quibble with its graphics quality. It wasn’t too long ago that 4:3 screen ratios were all we had. In the past few years, there has been an abrupt shift from standard 4:3 panels to 16:9/10 ones though, and now it’s difficult to purchase anything but. This is a good thing. Such ratios are more natural to look at and improve gaming and movie-viewing alike.

The SyncMaster features a 2ms response time and a 3000:1 contrast ratio, has a static contrast ratio of 1000:1, However, it also boasts a 3000:1 DC contrast ratio. The “DC” number refers to what Samsung calls “Dynamic Contrast.” It’s a way of modulating the contrast as needed. For example, while viewing either very bright or very dark scenes, parts of the main image can easily blend into the background. Samsung uses Dynamic Contrast to counter the problem by adjusting the backlight intensity, providing up to a 3X improvement in contrast hence 1000:1 moves over to 3000:1.

Manufacturer’s specs:

Screen Size : 22″
WideBrightness : 300cd/㎡
Pixel-response rate: 2ms
Contrast ratio: 3000:1
Connectivity: DVI, VGA
HDCP compliant? Yes
Included video cables? DVI

Features:

Plug & Play – DDC 2B, DDC-CI Multimedia
Speakers – No
Optional Accessories – N/A
Special Features – DVI with HDCP. MagicClear non-refractive screen. MagicBright3. Magic Color. Magic Tuner

The display offers a number of presets, which are easily accessed without even needing to use the onscreen menu. Simply pressing one of the menu buttons below the display lets you cycle through presets for Text, Internet, Game, Sport, Movie, and Dynamic Contract, and Custom.

This a great 22″ widescreen for any kind of purpose like gaming, watching movies, to work, browsing the internet or just for a home desktop PC. It’s unique design and the glossy panel make’s it look apart from the competition and delivering a very good performance. So if you are looking for a 22″ widescreen you can be sure that the Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW is one of the best that you can get right now.
