Microsoft has revealed two new additions to its Sidewinder Range, the Sidewinder x5 mouse and the Sidewinder x6 Keyboard.

The Sidewinder X6 keyboard features a switchable keypad, which can be connected to either side of the keyboard.

There is also a mode switching feature which lets you switch the keyboard from standard mode to one of the two gaming modes.

  side configuration. Switch between standard key pad and macro pad in
  gaming mode.
• Two-color adjustable backlighting dial – Keyboard keys are red, and
  key pad and Macro keys are amber in Game mode. Lighting dial adjusts

• Macro keys – Up to 30 programmable keys that can allow up to 90 programmable options with an assigned gaming profile.
• Mode switching – Manually toggle the keyboard from standard mode to either of two gaming modes. LEDs show the selected mode.
• Cruise Control – Use Cruise Control to continue an action without
  having to hold down the key or keys assigned to the action. You can use
  Cruise Control with up to four keys at a time.* (* Cruise Control does
  not work with programmable macro keys.)
• In-game macro record button – Record any sequence of
  keystrokes—even standard chat messages. Macros are stored on your hard
  drive and can be easily shared.
• Automatic profile Switching – When a game or application profile is
  assigned using the software, the keyboard detects the game or
  application you are running and applies your custom profile to the
  application.
• WASD gaming keys – Have front-face lighting for enhanced visibility.
• Media keys – Play/Pause, Previous Track, Next Track, and Mute.

The SideWinder X5 features 9 buttons 5 of which are fully
customizable and there is even a quick launch button which gives one
touch access to the Vista Games Explorer.

The X5 features a resolution of 2,000 DPI and has a built in laser
tracking engine which allows gamers to choose from 6 dpi settings.

You can also switch between low, medium and high sensitivity with one click.

But on gaming the DPI settings is a bit more complicated because you’ll have to choose which DPI is the best for you, if is too high maybe you won’t be able to aim properly and faster or if is to low you’ll be too slow to react to some situations. So it takes some time of gameplay to get a DPI setting that is the best for you as everyone has different choices.

A good gaming mouse has some other features like “On the fly DPI switching” this will let you change your DPI setting while gaming by just pressing buttons to lower it or to increase it like for example: while using a AK-47 on Counter Sritke you are at 2000 DPI then you want to use a sniper rifle you just press the button to lower the DPI at 1000 DPI to get a better aiming.

Also the best gaming mouses are having “weight tuning systems” that let’s you make the mouse heavier or lighter according with how you like it to be. And on board profile management is another cool feature where you can preset different DPI settings for each game without losing time every time you switch from one game to another game.

But to get the best out of your optical gaming mouse or laser gaming mouse you should really get a good gaming mouse pad, it really makes a difference on the way you gaming mouse slides on it.

My first gaming mouse was a logitech MX518 gaming mouse it was an amazing improvement on skills from a standard optical mouse that has 800 DPI and the MX518 having 1600 DPI it really felt like ready to game for hours feeling always comfortable and switching DPI settings on the fly while changing weapons was a breeze.

After that new mouses were coming out and with higher DPI settings, that was a small problem on online gaming where you really need to be able to react fast without losing accuracy, so sometimes it was like I was moving slower but after a while I knew that I needed to move faster so I decided to get a new mouse.

So I decided to get the Razer Lachesis gaming mouse because some friends told me that was the best gaming mouse out there, having 4000DPI, 3G Laser and the best looking mouse ever made I think. I was thinking to stay with logitech and getting a Logitech G9, but the looks of the Razer Lachesis and knowing that Razer makes some of the best PC gaming goodies I decide to get that one.

At the beginning was difficult to get used to the Lachesis because it’s design is very different from the MX518 and much lighter, to be honest I got frustrated with it but was a matter of time getting used to it and those 4000 DPI still too much for me but with time I’m sure I’ll need it right now 2400 DPI is good enough for me. You can’t jump from 800 DPI to an 4000 DPI gaming mouse and think that you’ll be able to control it, it takes time.
